At a Recent Barack Obama Event

I have to admit, my first thought was total sarcasm...

"Really? you really think this is representing Christ?"

My second thought was just pure frustration, bordering on anger....

Your thoughts?

i think we're going to spend the rest of our lives being frustrated by instances like this, because ignorant people (christian and non-christian) are always going to be around. maybe all we can do is devote ourselves even more to showing God's love in other ways, and hoping that people can see past the mistakes of christians and still find God in it all.

here's a short little opinion article that may or may not be of interest to ya, but it's at least releated:

seriously or in jest? ER-W, question...are you a Christ follower? Or just a Right-winger, and I don't mean anything by the wording of my question....just wondering...

ERW...
Might I suggest the addition of the word "too" to the beginning of your profile name?

I really hope you were kidding about the Christ follower answer, because you certainly aren't speaking for the Jesus that I know.

Killing babies? Yeah. It's terrible. But that doesn't make every democrat bound for hell, nor does that even make all democrats pro-choice, nor does it make them pro-abortion. You are lumping a lot of things together dear...

This picture really upsets me and some of the posts in response sadden me. Why is our hatred so much bigger than our desire to demonstrate God’s love and grace? Of course there are things that people with liberal views stand for that I disagree with (and conversely I don’t agree with all conservative perspectives either) but one cannot throw out the baby with the bath water. I can’t discredit all Christians just because some Christians do or say ignorant, un-Christ-like things. Likewise I can’t damn all liberals (or conservatives) to hell just because of the unbiblical views of a few. Fortunately for all of us Christ’s blood covers a multitude of shortcomings in His followers including ignorance and prejudices. Hopefully those would decrease as we become more like Him.

I would encourage you to look at the article by John McAuthur referenced in rdubbs subsequent post, as it relates well to this post. It is excellent and articulates what our role (particularly in the political arena) should be as Christians. While I could reference a multitude of quotes the following really jumped out at me as a description of how we, as Christians, are to respond to those with world views that differ from ours: “But in our efforts to support what is good and wholesome, reject what is evil and corrupt, and make a profoundly positive impact on our culture, we must use God’s methods and maintain scriptural priorities,” (MacAuthur, 2008, paragraph 3).

When Christians respond in this way they are not aligned with God’s methods. It is important to remember that these corruptions occur on both ends of the political spectrum. Is your first allegiance to the Lord, to your country, or to your political party?
